Entry and Foundation Award Package in Caring for Children Course Level: Level 1 - Further Education equivalent to BTEC Introductory Diploma or NVQ1 Reference Number: QHS1TE03CAFAP Introduction Are you someone who is considering a career in childcare or wanting to develop your practical parenting skills then this qualification is for you. The CACHE Foundation Award in Caring for Children allows you to learn some basic skills in caring for children and is a useful starting point in a career in caring for children. This course will help you to develop yourself and achieve a qualification that is equal to three GCSE grades D - G. This qualification alone does not qualify you to practice in the workplace but is an excellent first step to further training, which could lead to qualified status. NB Everyone working around children and young people will have to have a police check carried out as anyone with certain types of criminal record is not allowed to be a volunteer or work with children and young people. What will be covered in the course? You will study all aspects of caring for children and reflect on your personal development. Your course will cover Human Growth and Development from Birth to Old Age, Food and Nutrition, Health and Safety Practices in Home and Group Settings, Care of Children and Play and Practical Activities In addition to your Foundation programme you will develop your English and maths skills to enable you to progress to level 2. There will also be a range of enrichment activities that will help prepare you for progression to the next level. You will also given career guidance and there is the possibility of work experience in an early years setting. CACHE Foundation Award in Caring for Children Award (Level 1) CACHE Preparation for Childcare (Entry Level) How is the course assessed? There are 7 unit assignments and an external test Multiple Choice Question Paper The teaching staff take a practical approach to learning A variety of methods are used to assess your progress including: Individual & group presentations, Case Studies, Assignments, Projects, work based Assignments, developing learning resources, and display work Additional costs In addition to specific child care related subjects you will have the opportunity to develop your English and maths skills to enable you to progress to level 2. You will also have the opportunity to participate in enrichment activities such as cooking healthy food for children and wider key skills, in which you will undertake a range of projects. You will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of trips which will help you with your course work and when you become an Early Years Practitioner. Enrichment is a very important part of your experience at college, You will need about of ?200 to pay for equipment and enrichment, a polo and sweat shirt for placement, CRB check, stationery and costs for trips during the course. There is financial support available for students our student finance advisors will be able to help you Attendance and additional study hours You will be in college 3 days per week. There will always be assignments to be working on so you will need to allow at least 5 hours per week for additional study time. The college has a large library and open access area, which are open late, which you will be able to use for private study. Further information An Interview is required to join this course.
