Full Time Engineering : Higher National Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering Is this course for you? The course is designed for engineers or technicians who wish to acquire and develop the knowledge and intellectual skills to enable progression to Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status. It is preferable that the students are employed within the industry and receive appropriate support for their studies. This course is also offered as a six unit top-up award to HNC Electrical & Electronic Engineering students. How long is the course? 2 Years Full-Time or 1 Year Part-Time - for HNC entries When you will be attending. Full Time or Part-Time When does the course start? September What's the course about? The two year full-time programme has a total of sixteen units, 6 Core Units and 10 Optional Units. Edexcel classify the units as either H1 or H2, with H2 units designated as being at a higher level of study. In order to satisfy the award criteria, 8 of the units studied must be designated H2. Core Units : *Project *Engineering Science *Business Management Techniques *Analytical Methods - Mathematics *Engineering Design *Electrical & Electronic *Principles Optional Modules : *Further Analytical Methods *Health & Safety Risk Assessment *Mechatronic *System Principles *Project Management *Electronics *PLCs *Microprocessor Systems *Programming Concepts *Utilisation of Electrical Energy *Digital & Analogue Devices & Circuits *Measurement & Testing *Instrumentation & Control. The part-time one year top-up programme course has a total of six units of study. Edexcel classify the units as either H1 or H2, with H2 units designated as being at a higher level of study. In order to satisfy the award criteria, 8 of the units studied on the HNC and HND must be designated H2. As students will already possess a HNC in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, a further 3 H2 Units are required. The following four units have been identified to meet the needs of the programme and a further 2 units will be required. *Further Analytical Methods *Health & Safety Risk Assessment *Mechatronic System Principles *Project Management. Add any two units, not previously studied, from the following *PLCs *Microprocessor Systems *Programming Concepts *Utilisation of Electrical Energy *Measurement & Testing *Instrumentation & Control. Is work experience a necessary part of the course? Not necessary on full time programme. Day release from local employment for top-up programme. How will you be assessed? Continuous assessment What qualification will you achieve? Higher National Diploma - HND in Electrical & Electronic Engineering What can this course lead to? A key progression path for Higher National Diploma learners is generally to the 2nd year of a Degree or Honours Degree programme, depending on the match of units. They also offer a progression route to professional qualifications offered by the Engineering Council UK and relevant Licensed Member organisations. The programmes provide a significant basis for progression to Incorporated Engineer level via further learning. An Engineering Higher National Diploma has currency in Industry and many vacancies are advertised as 'Higher National Diploma, Degree'. In the event of subsequent revisions, students may progress or transfer to a Foundation Degree programme. The Higher National Diploma qualifications prepare learners for a range of technical and management careers within the industry by equipping them with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills. How much will the course cost you? Entry Requirements Normally at least one of the following giving a minimum of 80 UCAS points where appropriate: NC/ND in appropriate area. AVCE/GNVQ in appropriate vocational area. GCE A level profile of either strong performance in relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject.
