Engineering Level: Level 2 - BTEC First Diploma Full-time How long is the course/training? This is a one-year course. What will I be doing on the course/training? The course is designed to give the fundamental knowledge and experience needed when starting out on an Engineering career. The course provides a balanced mix of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering basics. Core Units: Working Practices in Engineering Using and Interpreting Engineering Information Applied Electrical and Mechanical Science Mathematics for Engineering Technicians Special Units: Using Computer Aided Drawing techniques in Engineering Mechanical Maintenance Fundamentals Selecting and using secondary machining techniques Electronic Circuit Construction and Testing+ IT Key Skills Portfolio Course/Training Code: To be confirmed Where do I study/train? Centre for Creative Industries, Victoria Yard What are the entry requirements? You need four GCSE D grades including Science and Maths with an interest in engineering as a career. What can I do after this course/training? You could progress on to the National Diploma in Engineering (subject to achieving a Merit or Distinction), an Apprenticeship or A levels. What key skills will I do? You will do key skills in IT and Communication. Also, Certificate in Employment Skills and Free Standing Maths unit. What residential/work experience is there? Only controlled practical work and exercises as part of the course in our workshops. What faculty is the course/training in? Engineering How to Apply? You will follow a timetable and learn in classrooms, laboratories and workshops.Most assessment is done via coursework, although tests may be used if more appropriate in some subject area. Note: The course is approx. 65% theory, 35% practical. What facilities are there? Mechanical Workshops Electrical and Electronic Laboratories C.A.D room Industrial IT room What will the course/training cost me? This further education course is free for all 16-18 year olds who are resident in the UK and the European Economic Area for the last 3 years. (You must be under 19 on 31st August in the calendar year that you start your course). If you are 19 or over please contact us to find out costs.
