Electrical/Mechanical Engineering - BTEC National Diploma (Level 3) Number of Weeks 32 Hours per Week 18 Who is the programme for? This programme is for students who wish to pursue a career in Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Engineering. It provides a grounding in general engineering. How long does it take to complete? 2 years. What qualifications do I need? What is the programme structure? The National Diploma consists of 5 core units and 12 specialist units covering electrical/electronic and mechanical engineering. The National Diploma is equivalent to 3 A levels. Key Skills If you are aged 16-18 and following this course as a full time student your programme will include tutorials, enrichment activities and the development of key skills. Key skills are recognised and valued by employers and universities and are an important part of your course as they will help to improve your performance and confidence at college and in the future. Are there any special facilities for the programme? The College has specialist engineering workshops for students to study in. How is the programme assessed? The programme is assessed through continuous assessment of a portfolio containing evidence of completed assignments and practical work, including two externally assessed units. Students will also complete a design project, which is externally assessed. Will there be any extra costs involved? There may be additional costs for text books and overalls, a scientific calculator will be required. What if I need support? BTEC National Diploma Engineering. Examining/Validating Body EDEXCEL. What can I do next? Successful students can either progress onto Higher Education Programmes in Engineering such as Foundations Degrees, Degrees or enter employment at Technician Level.
