Course Description

Eco Technology, Foundation Degree - Level 5 (Lancaster University) UCAS Code(s): H900 Qualification Obtained: Vocational study not leading to a recognised qualification About this Course: Climate change is perhaps the biggest issue facing our generation. We need to engage with the wider community to raise awareness of environmental issues and effect change. Climate change is a political, engineering and scientific problem. While there may not be a single global solution, perhaps many small scale solutions may contribute to better management of the situation and to the eventual discovery of a strategy that will help us to manage our global climate and ecology. The School of Engineering and Computing is seeking to promote the use of emergent technologies that can reduce energy usage (and costs) and minimise environmental impact. The new Foundation Degree in Eco-Technology will allow us to take the lead in producing the graduates capable of imagining, designing, manufacturing, installing, testing and maintaining emergent technologies. We can provide the knowledgeable, enthusiastic and pragmatic lecturers and guest speakers who will inspire these learners to develop these technologies for the sustainable future. This programme will provide engineers, scientists and others with the opportunity to re-train in this growth area. In the current economic climate employers, including the College itself, may be encouraged to train their existing staff. There is an increasing demand for well qualified Engineers to support the design and maintenance of Eco-Technology systems. The growth industry is primarily focussed on small to medium scale electrical energy generation and energy management systems. Industry input is essential to ensuring that the Foundation Degree is developed in an appropriate 'industry focused' manner and that candidates who wish to take the Foundation Degree in Eco Technology, receive the most relevant information in current manufacturing thinking, as well as the new developments in this sector, whilst using the most up to date resources and software available to industry standards. The programme offers a fixed package of 19 units. The units are seen as sections which complement each other in the first and second year of the course. The sections have been developed through close links with industries. You will be equipped with the skills and applied knowledge that will enable you to provide twenty first century technologies to industrial situations and glimpse into what the future holds for these skills and technologies. Entry Requirements: What are we Looking for? We are looking for people who have an interest in Engineering together with appropriate academic qualifications and/or relevant industrial experience. We are also looking for people who, on successful completion of the course, will endorse our reputation for producing students with excellent employability skills. Every application is treated individually this is particularly true for mature students whose life experiences may, to a certain degree, mitigate a lack of some academic qualifications. Acceptance for entry to the programme would normally be on the basis of either: Level 3 qualification in a relevant field (UCAS tariff 120 minimum). Level 3 vocational awards are also appropriate. Candidates will have at least 3 year's experience of working in manufacturing design or related technical role either a paid or (substantial) voluntary basis. The College has quality assurance policies which promote equal opportunities for all candidates. Is this the right course for me? Blackpool and the Fylde College's delivery of courses is tailored to the needs of the local population, and we intend to continue this ethos in our delivery of this Foundation Degree we would seek to deliver this qualification flexibly, both via traditional full-time attendance modes, traditional part-time evening attendance, and a mixture of the two styles as appropriate for the individ
