Course Description

Modules Covered Your engaging and comprehensive modules are as follows: Level 1: Personal Development Planning, Work Based Learning, Residential Construction Services, Building Pathology and Energy Audit, Residential Infrastructure & External Works, Legal & Contract Framework and Planning & Regulatory Framework Computer Aided Design. Level 2: Personal Development Planning, Residential Conversion, Adaptation Repair & Maintenance, Energy Audit, Survey and Conservation, Social Housing, Contract Administration, Design Frameworks, Residential Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Production Management and Estimating. Teaching Methods Our teaching emphasises the relationship between modules and encourages you to use skills gained in one module across the whole curriculum. Our overall aim is for you to view modules not as stand-alone units, but as a whole. The methods we use will be a blend of lecturers, team teaching, seminars, presentations and informative industry visits. Work Placement/Fieldwork Work-based learning will form the central part of your Foundation Degree in Construction Design and Management and will focus on learning through experience. You will be involved in real work problems and issues and learn from the solutions. Course Overview There have been a great deal of exciting changes within the construction industry, and with this course, we aim to develop the technical skills and knowledge you will require to deal with these changes as a manager in your professional field. Course Structure The course will provide you with a solid foundation of professional skills so that you can choose from a range of careers within the field of a construction professional. With our help, you will develop a broad base of personal skills, theory and the knowledge to design and produce construction solutions. Learning Methods Learning across all modules will give you both practical and intellectual skills, and you will be able to apply these skills through work placement and simulation. Themed projects will combine team activities and further develop your appreciation for your new skills and knowledge gained. Assessment There are no end-of-year exams. Your assessment will be through on-going assignments, reports, essays, and the completion of individual portfolios.
