Working as an early years or childcare professional involves working with children and young people. Aim of this course Training in childcare offers a range of career opportunities, and this broad based course will give you an in-depth knowledge of how to care for and work with young children, as well as extensive practical experience in a variety of child care settings. This course is ideal if you want a career which focuses on the care development and education of children Course modules Units studied include Positive relationships for children's care, learning and development Positive environments for children's care, learning and development Promoting children's development Reflecting on and developing practice for children Safeguarding children Promoting children's rights Children's learning activities and play Research methodology for children's care, learning and development Physical activities for children Supporting children's literacy skills Supporting children's numeracy skills Meeting additional requirement for Children's Care. Learning and Development Supporting Children's Information and Communication Technology Skills Design and technology for the early years practitioner What are the entry requirements? 5 GCSEs at grade A*-C including English, or level 2 at merit or above in relevant subject area. All applicants will have an interview at the college and we will request a school or college report. You will need two references from people who are not related to you and a CRB Police Check. How will I learn? You will learn through classes that are a mixture of tutor led sessions, tutorials, and guest speakers. The course incorporates key skills. You will study for 1080 guided learning hours over two years with over 800 hours in placement. When will I be expected to be in college? You will spend two days in placement and three days in college. Block release is also part of the course. How will I be assessed? Examining body: BTEC The assessment board is Edexcel. A variety of methods including written assignments, projects, work-based activities, individual and group presentations and work-based learning are some of the assessment strategies used. Study time out of college is expected. What if I need support? The college provides a safe and up-to-date working environment with many sources of information available in resource-based learning centres. Where possible, we will provide additional learning support as you need it and discuss your progress through tutorials. Further study When completed you are accredited with the equivalent of 3 'A' levels. This course provided access to higher education for primary teaching and for other degree courses such as childhood studies. It may also be accepted for progression into nursing (paediatrics). Career progression It provides the opportunity to progress directly into employment as a nursery nurse, an early years practitioner, or a teaching assistant in schools, children's representative with a holiday company, special needs support assistant, a nanny (home or abroad) or into assistant posts in health, social services or community programmes. *The tuition fee is free if you are 16-18 years of age on August 31 of the calendar year in which you begin your studies. If you are 19 or over tuition fees will apply. Help may be available with fees, please ask. Government funding may be available through apprenticeship or train to gain schemes.
