Full Time Chemical Industries Apprenticeship : BTEC National Certificate in Applied Science Is this course for you? 16 - 18 year olds who want to join an apprenticeship scheme working in either the engineering or scientific branches of the chemical industry. How long is the course? The Apprenticeship programme is over two years. The first 24 weeks is taken up by full-time study at Stockport College followed by employment in the chemical industry. When you will be attending. The first 24 weeks consists of full-time study of 22 hours per week at Stockport College after which, learners work within industry for the remainder of the two-year programme. The 22 hours per week at College will involve between 3 and 4 days per week attendance. When does the course start? please contact the Enquiry Team on 0845 230 3102 What's the course about? Learners will study for a National Certificate qualification in the first 24 weeks of the programme. This will then be followed by employment within the chemical industry together with further part-time study at Stockport College. BTEC National Certificate (Scientific Pathway):- 6 core units including:- Fundamentals of Science, Scientific Investigation and Working in the Science Industry. 6 optional units including:- Practical Chemical Analysis, Chemical Laboratory Techniques and Biochemical Techniques. Is work experience a necessary part of the course? Following the completion of the National Certificate qualification within the first 24 weeks, the College will work with each learner to secure employment within the chemical industry. This will be an apprenticeship programme and the company in which the learner is serving his or her apprenticeship will employ the learner. How will you be assessed? Assessment of the learners' progress will be by assignments for their College based programme and work place assessment after the first 24 weeks. What qualification will you achieve? Successful learners will gain a full apprenticeship within the Chemical Industry. This will include a BTEC National Certificate, all relevant key skills and a National Vocational Qualification. What can this course lead to? Successful completion of this course will lead to employment in a branch of the Chemical Industry. Chemical industries include chemicals, pharmaceuticals, nuclear, oil and gas, petroleum and polymers. How much will the course cost you? The course is free to all eligible applicants. All successful applicants may be also eligible for either an Educational Maintenance Award or a Bursary.
