Certificate in Land-Based Studies - Horticulture Course Level: Level 1 - Further Education equivalent to BTEC Introductory Diploma or NVQ1 Reference Number: QMS1TH01/BAFAP Introduction This course is designed for students who are interested in a career within the Land-Based sector specialising in horticulture. The progression upon successful completion can be to a Level 2 First Diploma in Horticulture/Horticultural Level 2 apprenticeship. What will be covered in the course? For full achievement of the Certificate in Land-based Studies you will need to achieve passes in 7 units. Core Units: Unit 1 Safe and effective working practices in land-based industries Unit 2 Developing performance in land-based industries Specialist Core Units: Unit 3 Contributing to the propagation of plants Unit 4 Identifying plants Unit 5. Identifying common pests and diseases Unit 6 Contributing to the establishment of plants Unit 7. Contributing to the maintenance of plants Assessment and quality assurance - national standards and rigorous quality assurance are maintained by the use of: NPTC set and marked tests by online multi choice tests NPTC set assignments Students will also collect a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their achievements. Land-based Certificate NVQ Level 1 (Horticulture) How is the course assessed? The course is assessed by on-line tests and unit assessments. Additional costs You will need to provide steel toe capped safety boots and purchase College T-shirts and sweatshirts. Attendance and additional study hours You will need to attend College 3 days a week. Further information An Interview is required to join this course. If you are successful you could progress onto a First Diploma in Horticulture, a Level 2 Apprenticeship or you could go on to work within the Land-based industry.
