Certificate in Aeronautical & Automotive Refinishing What you will study The course follows the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Technical Award, which forms part of the Modern Apprenticeship framework. You will study in the motor vehicle area of refinishing at Level 1 and Level 2. This is an intensive course, both Level 1 and Level 2 are combined into one year. Key Skills, Number, IT and Communications are an integral part of all full-time courses at Coleg Llandrillo Cymru and will therefore form part of your programme of study. Modules at Level 1: - Basic vehicle preparation - Vehicle refinishing materials - Vehicle refinishing tools & equipment - Vehicle paint application & minor defects - Vehicle technical information - Working safely & effectively during vehicle refinishing operations Moduels at Level 2 - House keeping; Health & safety; Working relationships - Prepare panels to accept foundation & topcoats - Prepare & apply foundation materials - Repair minor vehicle paint defects Who the course is for This qualification has been designed primarily for candidates who wish to gain knowledge and experience of the aeronautical/automotive refinishing industry. How you will study The course is delivered through practical demonstrations which are supported with realistic working tasks, where the emphasis is on you demonstrating competence skills. Underpinning knowledge for each unit is given on a lecture based mode of delivery, where you are encouraged to produce assignment work and use the internet whenever possible. Electronic delivery is also part of the teaching/learning process. How you will be assessed Assessment is ongoing and assessed internally; unit theory assessment is undertaken via written tests and also online. Multi-choice questioning will be used for online testing. Practical assessments are also an integral part of each unit. You will also be given the opportunity to visit Industry and Trade Shows and will be placed in Industry for a one week period which will take place by mutual agreement. Qualification Title Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Technical Award Level 1 & 2 in Refinishing Course Length 1 year full-time, over 3 terms. Course Availability The course is available at the following campus(es): Rhyl Entry Guidelines It is recommended that for direct entry onto the course, candidates will have three GCSEs at Grade C or above in Maths, English and a Science based subject. Other prior learning could include the IMI Level 1 Award in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (various routes) or equivalent motor vehicle qualifications from other Awarding Bodies and key skills at Level 1. Your Options After the Course Due to technological advancements; aircraft, accident repair/refinishing, and surface coatings companies, are constantly seeking to appoint young people in their respective industries. Also, further study in Refinishing at Level 3, or a related industrial discipline, may be an option.
