How to ApplyEnrol Application Form to be returned to Learner Services Course Outline If you would like to develop a basic knowledge and skills in caring for babies and young children then this is the course for you. Profile You will learn about: Pregnancy and the Responsible Parent Caring for Young Children 0-3 years 11 months Play and Learning in the Home 0-3 years 11 months The course will also help you to develop your literacy, numeracy and IT skills. You will have the opportunity to achieve certificates for qualifications in these areas these are National qualifications which are required by employers and will help you to progress to further study. The course also offers opportunities to develop through enrichment activities such as art and craft, first aid, outings and personal development. Studying child care and education is not an easy option so you need to carefully think about whether this is the right course for you. Additional Information After the initial assessment period in September, you will be advised on the most appropriate level of course to meet your needs. If a course in Childhood Studies is not for you, Student Advisers will be available to discuss your options. To ensure all learners are enrolled on the right course of study, the first few weeks of the programme will be an extended induction period. During this time your communication, numeracy and study skills will be assessed as well as your own preferred method of learning. Your behaviour will also be monitored, including your time management and attendance. Towards the end of the induction period, your course tutor will review your progress. If your course tutor believes the programme does not meet your requirements an appointment will be arranged with you (and possibly your parents) to discuss this assessment and a suitable alternative. This may include further assistance from the Advice and Guidance Team based in the college. Later courses may be charged at a different rate. Fees quoted are on an individual student basis only. Opportunities You may wish to progress to the CACHE Level 1 Foundation Award in Caring for Children. A Pass at Entry Level 3 is required. You will also have to prove that you have had high levels of motivation, commitment, attendance and punctuality during your previous course at Wirral Metropolitan College. Entry Requirement Before interview you will need to: Collect all of the information required for a Criminal Records Bureau Check. Ask for two positive references. One must be from your last place of education or training. At interview you will need to: Have a minimum grade of Entry level 1 for Literacy and Numeracy following an on-line initial assessment undertaken during interview. Complete an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Check at a non refundable cost of ?36.00. Show that you are motivated, committed and have excellent punctuality and attendance.
