BTEC National Diploma Countryside Management Level: 3 Location: BH Years: 2 Course Summary The course is a 2 year programme that aims to give participants a solid foundation in the science and practice of conservation and managing the countryside by using a wide range of experiences both at Broomfield and its 380 acre estate as well as the wider Derbyshire Countryside. How will I be assessed? You will undertake study in 18 modules over the 2 years of the course and each module has 4 outcomes that are assessed in a range of ways including written assignments, practical skill tests and an identification test. The mode of assessment depends upon the outcome required. How much time will I spend on the course? 4 days per week 09.30am - 4.45pm How is the course delivered? A mix of classroom based learning, practical countryside tasks, work experience, field trips. Who is this course suitable for? Students wishing to learn more about working in the countryside and how the countryside works and who wish to pursue a career in this area. What are mandatory modules or units? Investigate Project in the Countryside Management Sector. Principles of Ecology, Land-based Estate, Construction Repair and Maintenance Skills, Work related experience in the Countryside Management Sector. What materials do I have to provide? You will need appropriate clothing including safety boots. Binoculars and identification books are useful. Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required? Safety Boots, Gloves and outdoor clothing. What can I do after this course? Students do many things after the course. Employment, working for a employer using the skills and knowledge that the course gives. Self employment. Working for yourself using the skills and knowledge that the course gives. Or progression to a higher level course such as a Degree at University. Some students continue doing the National Award Arboriculture at Broomfield. What careers would this course be useful for? For starting a career working in Countryside Management and for organization such as National Parks, Water Authorities, National Trust etc.
