Course Information Title: BTEC National Award/Diploma in Public Services Level: Level 3 Category: Public (Uniformed Services) Curriculum Area: Public Service, Travel and Tourism Course Length 2 Years Level Level 3 Who is it for? This advanced qualification will prepare you for a career in outdoor education or the public / uniformed services. It covers important and interesting topics such as police powers, leadership, team building, fitness, public services and society and outdoor and adventurous expeditions. Interview / Skills Assessment Yes What will I need? 4 or more GCSEs at A*-C grade; or BTEC First Diploma at merit grade; or an NVQ2 You will also need to attend an interview to make sure the course is right for you. If you have other qualifications and/or relevant experience you will be fully considered and may still be able to study for the course. What is covered? This course will prepare you for working in the uniformed services through visiting speakers, trips to bases, meeting various service personnel and experience of expeditions and camps. The College has close links with the Armed Forces Careers Office, the Territorial Army, the Royal Logistics Corps, the Army Youth Team and other services. You will study subjects such as: ? Government policies and public services ? Team leadership ? Citizenship ? Contemporary society and the public services ? Team development ? Understanding discipline ? Physical preparation and fitness ? Outdoor and adventurous expeditions ? Skills for land and water based outdoor activities ? Uniformed public service employment ? Understanding the criminal justice system and police powers How is the course assessed? Assignments, practical demonstrations and tests. What can this course be combined with? What can this course lead to? You can go on to work in the public services, such as the armed forces, fire service, police, prison service or study at higher education level for an HND or degree. Are there any additional costs? You will need warm, waterproof clothing for outdoor activities. There may also be some costs for uniforms, camp visits and textbooks (approximately ?200). You will also take part in residential expeditions, which will incur additional costs.
