Full Time BTEC National Award/Diploma in Construction Course Code : FLR3CON (091001) Prospectus Title : BTEC National Award/Diploma in Construction Mode of Study :FULL-TIME At the start of the first term you will be required to pay a returnable ?25.00 deposit to cover loan of equipment and library books. In addition you will be required to pay for any educational trips as well as your own stationery or material provisions. All students will be expected to provide their own safety shoes. Who is it For? You are likely to be aiming to be employed in a construction discipline and the skills acquired during your studies should enable you to progress to a technical or professional position in industry. This is likely to be in a job covering one or more of the following: * Architectural Design * Estimating * Planning * Surveying * Site Engineer * Site Technician * Site Supervision * Valuation * Building Control * Land Surveying * Town Planning The employer you work for may be a construction company, private practice, local authority or government department. If you decide to go to university or college you could take a degree or a BTEC Higher National in subjects such as: * Architectural Design * Construction Management * Building Surveying * Quantity Surveying * Property Management * Land Administration * Land Surveying * Town Planning What Does the Course Involve? The programme covers a broad range of subject matter. All learners take these five core units: * Health, Safety and Welfare * Construction and the Environment * Construction Technology and Design * Construction Science and Materials * Analytical Methods All learners must take this specialist unit: * Building Technology All learners must take these further twelve specialist units: * Planning, Organisation and Control of Resources * Graphical Detailing * Measuring, Tendering and Estimating Processes * Surveying Processes * Economics and Finance * Setting Our Processes * Environmental Science * Structural Mechanics * Building Surveying * Building Services * Building Regulations and Control * ICT and CAD How is the Course Assessed? There will be continuous assessment throughout the programme by assignments and project work. How Much Does it Cost? At the start of the first term you will be required to pay a returnable ?25.00 deposit to cover loan of equipment and library books. Entry Requirement You will normally need to have at least one of the following: * A BTEC First Certificate or Diploma in a related subject * An Intermediate GNVQ in a related subject * At least four GCSEs at grades A*-C (to include science, mathematics and English) * Appropriate knowledge and/or experience gained at work or from other related qualifications In your first year you also do an additional qualification in Practical Construction Skills to give you an insight into basic brickwork and carpentry trades.
