AS Science in Society Level: 3 Location: JWC Years: 1 Course Summary This is an exciting new AS level which will broaden the curriculum of students studying outside science, and give those studying science the opportunity to reflect on their specialist subject in a wider context. How will I be assessed? 60% examination and 40% coursework. How much time will I spend on the course? 1 hour per week. How is the course delivered? Classroom-based learning. Who is this course suitable for? Suitable for anyone who would like a deeper understanding of science. It works very well for science-based and arts-based students. What are mandatory modules or units? AS Exploring Science: Germ theory of disease, infectious diseases, transport issues, medicines, ethical issues in medicine, reproductive choices, radiation, lifestyle and health, evolution, the universe, who we are and where are we? AS Reading and Research: write a critical account of scientific reading. write a study of a topical scientific issue. What materials do I have to provide? Pens and paper. Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required? No. What can I do after this course? Higher Education or employment. What careers would this course be useful for? Sciences, Medicine, Journalism, Physics, a full range of careers.
