Full time Animal Care-NVQ Level 2 This course is designed for young people who are interested in gaining qualifications whilst working with companion animals in kennels, catteries, animal rescues, zoos and pet shops. Applicants for the Apprenticeship must be in full time contractual employment. Applicants for the NVQ2 Animal Care qualification and Train to Gain must have a minimum of 16 hours per week paid or voluntary employment. Core Units: The Core Units for study are: #A Unit Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety #CU.34 Promote and maintain the health and well being of animals #CU.37 Establish animal accommodation #CU.5 Develop personal performance and maintain working relationships Candidates must also achieve either AC3 (maintain the cleanliness of the work environment) or CU33 (Provide feed and water to animals). Plus 6 other optional units will cover some of the areas detailed below The course covers the following areas: Health and safety #Providing food and water for animals #Cleaning and maintaining animal accommodationworking environment #Animal health and well - being #Exercising for animals #Moving and restraining animals #Animal behaviour #Stock control #Personal development and time management #Record keeping and information technology. #Grooming #Key Skill Students are able to work at their own pace developing skills and completing assignments in the workplace. Maximum study period: 1 year. Students may work with dogs, cats, rodents, fish, reptiles, exotics, small mammals, birds and livestock. How to find an EmployerPlacement? Students will need to find a placement for the NVQ Level 2 at any animal care establishment e.g. kennels, catteries, rescue centres, pet shops. Looking in the yellow pages and going to local businesses are the best ways to try to find a place, also using school work experience can help.
