Foundation Degree in Animal BehaviourWelfare Subject area: Animal Care Course type: Full time Course description This broad-based degree has been developed to give students who are interested in a rewarding career in a range of animal related industries the knowledge and skills they will need to be successful. It is designed for people who are wishing to enter the industry or who are currently working and wish to develop their career potential. It has been written in partnership with the School of Life Sciences at Oxford Brookes University and in consultationwith leading local animal industries. The course will develop themes in animal behaviour and welfare. Modules will include practical units, scientific knowledge and skills, grounding in business principles and will also focus on the legal and ethical issues related to working with animals. Work placements are an essential part of the course where students will apply theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom to the practical care of animals. Year 1 Learning and Professional Skills Practical Animal Husbandry Management Laboratory Science Introduction to Business Animal Welfare Animal Anatomy ad Physiology Animal Nutrition Animals in Society, Law and Ethics Year 2 Industry-based project Animal Behaviour The Internal Business Organisation Animal breeding Animal Heath and Disease Wild Life and Conservation Exotics and Trade in the Animal Industry Animal Management and Collections Final award Foundation Degree ( Science) in Animal Behaviour and Welfare Entry requirements National DiplomaCertificate in Animal Science or other relevant Science to provide a minimum of 80 UCAS tariff points Passes at AAS level equivalent to a minimum of 80 UCAS tariff points or Mature students or students with considerable industry experience will be considered on a case by case basis Additional information Applications are though UCAS. UCAS code OXFD 66 D300 Fd ScABW. Fees for 2009-2010 will be ?1285. All tuition Fees are payable to Oxford Brookes Unviversity at enrolment. There is an additonal materials and enrichment fee payable to Abingdon and Witney college, this will be in the region of ?150. Student support is available for this degree. *Students aged 16-18 will not be required to pay the full course fee, in most cases your fee will not exceed ?150.
