Access to Nursing Levels 2 & 3 (OCN) WHAT'S ON THE COURSE? The Access to Nursingprogramme is designed, in conjunction with the local Higher Education Nursing Facilities, to prepare students for a career in the Health Service as nurses or ancillary health professionals. The course emphasises the development of appropriate academic and personal skills. It also provides an introduction to specialist subject area. The course is the recognised route onto nursing degrees and diplomas and has a twenty year record of success. Development of core skills is central to this programme and students will develop communication, numerical and information technology skills as well as working with others, improving own learning and performance and problem solving. Particular emphasis will be placed upon useful study techniques, as many students are returners to education. In addition to Core Skills you will also study: Life Sciences, and Psychology and Health Studies or Psychology and Sociology You will also be given the opportunity to study Maths and English to GCSE standard. IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR ME? WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR? This programme is specifically designed for mature students who wish to return to study and to improve their qualifications. It is particularly useful for individuals who intend to enter Higher Education or professions such as nursing, midwifery and psychotherapy. WHAT CAN I DO NEXT? You will gain a nationally recognised diploma which is recognised nationally as an alternative qualification to A-Levels. This enables you to apply for entry to a range of health care professions, including nursing, midwifery and occupational therapy.
