Full Time A2 Level Biology (E)This course is for you if: You want to complete the full A level in Biology and have an interest in studying biology or related subjects at university. Under 19s assessed as Home, do not pay the course fees, we only charge a 20 enrolment fee which is refunded if you complete the course. Home students over 19 undertaking their First Full Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSE A-C) or their First Full Level 3 (equivalent to BTEC National or 2 ALevels) will be charged 20 enrolment fee plus any examination fees. For Home students over 19 receiving certain state benefits, the 20 enrolment is charged and not refundable. In all other instances, you will be charged the Home-EU or Overseas Fee. About the course: The course comprises a one year Advanced Subsidiary level course which can either be taken as a free-standing qualification or can be combined with a further year of study to give a 6 credit A level award. The OCR specification has been developed in consultation with teachers, universities, research organisations (such as the Sanger Institute) and professional bodies (the Biosciences Federation and the Institute of Biology).This course will build upon the skills you have gained at GCSE. You will be given the opportunity to explore some modern applications of Biology whilst also covering more traditional areas. The course is made up of both compulsory and optional modules. At both levels coursework is an essential component of the exam as well as synoptic assessment for the advanced qualification. - It is based upon the existing successful GCE Biology specification. - There is less emphasis on recall and more on understanding and application. - Units F211 and F214 are designed to enter candidates for the January examination series. - All four externally assessed units are offered in the January and June series. - You will be assessed on practical skills. - Four Units (two at AS, two at A2) are externally assessed through written examinations. AS Unit Title - Cells, exchange and transport Unit Code - F211 Module 1 Cells, Module 2 Exchange and transport Unit Title - Molecules, diversity, food, and health Unit Code - F212 Module 1 Biological molecules, Modile 2 Food and health, Module 3 Biodiversity and evolution Unit Title - Practical Skills in Biology Unit Code - F213 A2 Unit Title - Communication, homeostasis, and energy Unit Code - F214 Module 1 Communication and homeostasis, Module 2 Excretion, Module 3 Photosynthesis, Module 4 Respiration Unit Title Unit Title - Control, genomes, and environment Unit Code - F215 Module 1 Cellular control and variation, Module 2 Biotechnology and gene technologies, Module 3 Ecosystems and sustainability, module 4 Responding to the environment Unit Title - Practical assessment Unit Code - F216 Module title - Task assessments - Two Units (one at AS, one at A2) are internally assessed, moderated by post Units, and will assess students?? practical skills. - Practical skills units are available in the June series only.
