A2 Environmental Studies Level: 3 Location: JWC Years: 1 Course Summary Environmental Studies enables students to gain a deep and well informed insight into the environment and the scientific processes that control and affect it. The course is based on a thematic approach covering the rocks of the earth, the atmosphere, water and life. How will I be assessed? There will be two written exams for AS and two written exams for A2. There is no coursework requirement. How much time will I spend on the course? 5 hours per week. How is the course delivered? Classroom-based learning, practical work and trips. Who is this course suitable for? This course will be ideal for students who are interested in their environment and how the natural world is used and affected by people. What are mandatory modules or units? AS Unit 1 - The Living Environment, AS Unit 2 - The Physical Environment, A2 Unit 3 - Energy Resources and Pollution, and A2 Unit 4 - Biological Resources and Sustainability. All are mandatory, there are no options. What materials do I have to provide? Pens, paper etc. Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required? No What can I do after this course? As part of a group of science or art A-levels, Environmental Studies provides an ideal base for employment, a range of vocational qualifications and a very wide variety of Higher Education courses. What careers would this course be useful for? A wide range of careers now have an environmental aspect, so careers could range from environmental journalism if combined with art subjects to environmental monitoring, e.g. pollution control, if combined with sciences.
