Course Description

A Level Mathematics Sector : School Leavers Department : Education and Humanities - A Levels The course is designed to train the mind logically and to follow a line of reasoning using appropriate techniques to a conclusion. The emphasis of the course is on Pure Mathematics and you will learn about the science of numbers, measurements and shapes. A GCSE in higher mathematics at grade B or above is required for this subject. Students are also required to sit an assessment to determine their suitability for the course. If unsuccessful, an alternative pathway is offered whereby a foundation of Advanced Maths (FAM) course is followed for the first year to improve algebraic skills in particular. Degree Academy This course forms part of our Degree Academy scheme and is open to all Advanced Level Students working towards a minimum of 5 GCSE's A-C and who are determined to succeed. It offers a widely praised level of support to those who wish to progress to Britain's top rated Universities and provides a head start to those who wish to study for a degree closer to home - right here at Farnborough College of Technology. Joining the Degree Academy will stretch you. You will be able to do additional programmes and activities. You will receive expert advice and guidance from experienced Higher Education tutors. In short it will provide an excellent preparation for University or for professional training and lead to well developed time management and team working skills - just the kind of skills that are highly regarded by the Universities and employers. Entry requirements 5 GCSEs at grade A*-C. References will also be required. Further information When applying for a full time A Level course you do not need to state which subjects you are intending to do. You just need to write 'A Levels' on the form and the subjects required will be discussed at interview. Entry years 2010 - 2011
