Are we actually the architects of our own destiny? Can we, by taking charge of our own thoughts, feelings and actions, change our lives so that we are happier and more fulfilled? Our perceptions and belief system about Life, the Universe and Everything are formed between the ages of 0-7. Using insights from Adlerian psychology, the course will demonstrate ways of interpreting your early recollections so that you will begin to understand why you think and feel the way you do. You will discover your beliefs about yourself, others and the world around you and find ways to move forward to living a more fulfilling life. The emphasis of the course will be experiential, with reflection and processing helping to clarify your convictions about yourselves and life. There will be minimal presentation of theory. However concepts underpinning the ideas on the course will be backed up with handouts and references should you want to explore further. What topics will we cover? Alfred Adler's underpinning ideas regarding the Individual and Society. You and your family of origin. Using Early Recollections to gain a deeper understanding of yourself. Ways of reframing experiences in order to move forward and create more useful behaviour. By the end of this course you should be able to: Understand the ideas underpinning Early Recollections. Have more awareness of your beliefs, attitudes and private logic. Understand the process of interpreting Early Recollections. Identify behaviour patterns that are not useful to you. Appreciate the organic change that is possible and identify a way forward. What level is the course and do I need any particular skills? For anyone who has done at least one year of dedicated personal development work who is used to sharing their experiences in a supportive group and wishes to explore further to gain a deeper understanding and awareness of themselves. How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class? Learning will be experiential (in the group, in pairs and individual exercises). DiscussionSharing. DrawingWriting. VisualisationRelaxation. Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring? It would be very helpful if students could read: What Life Could Mean to You, by Alfred Adler. There will be handouts given on the course. Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol? No. What feedback will I get? You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. You can expect your tutor to give you feedback both individually and through group discussion. At the end of the course you will be given the opportunity to complete a record of your achievements which will be verified by your tutor. How will I be able to give my views on the course? Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses. There will be an opportunity to evaluate your course at the end.
