Health & Social Care Foundation Learning Tier - AwardCertificate in Health & Social Care (PSF0200) What are the Course Details? This course provides a broad introduction to Health & Social Care. It will enable the learner to develop the personal skills and qualities required of a health and social care worker and provide the basis for progression to successful study at a higher level. Is the Course for Me? For this course you will need to have a caring attitude and the ability to work as part of a team. You should have a desire to work in the Health and Social Care sector. What are the Entry Requirements? To be eligible for this course you will need to have a good standard of literacy and numeracy (measured by a College based IKSA test) and a satisfactory schoolcollege report. Learners will need to obtain an appropriate level of Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure Certificate to attend placement. (Learners will need to pay for this). What will I Learn? All units are optional, there are no core units. However, at least 60 percent of credit achieved must be at the level of the qualification. You will study a number of units at a level appropriate to your needs from the following: Entry Level Investigating Rights and Responsibilities at Work* (1 credit) Managing Your Health at Work* (1 credit) Preparing for Work Placement* (1 credit) Learning from Work Placement* (2 credits) Health Needs (3 credits) Introduction to Creative and Leisure Activities for Children and Adults (3 credits) The Role of the Carer at Mealtimes (3 credits) Level 1 Investigating Rights and Responsibilities at Work* (1 credit) Managing Your Health at Work* (1 credit) Preparing for Work Placement* (1 credit) Learning from Work Placement* (2 credits) Health and Social Care Needs (4 credits) Personal Care in Health and Social Care (4 credits) Creative Activities for Children (4 credits) Learning Experiences for Children and Young People (4 credits) Creative and Leisure Activities for Adults in Health and Social Care (4 credits) Promoting Healthy Eating in Care (4 credits) Communication with Adults and Children in Health and Social Care (4 credits) Job Opportunities in Health and Social Care (4 credits) Health and Social Care Group Project (4 credits) Level 2 Investigating Rights and Responsibilities at Work* (1 credit) Managing Your Health at Work* (1 credit) Preparing for Work Placement* (1 credit) Learning from Work Placement* (2 credits) How will I Learn? Learners will experience a range of teaching and learning methods including role play, practical activities, group work and more formal lessons providing underpinning knowledge. How will I be Assessed? Assessment on the course is continuous and involves the completion of assignments, group presentations and practical activities. Grades will be awarded for units undertaken. Learners' work on additional qualifications is assessed using a variety of methods such as portfolios of work, scenario based assignments and external examinations. What Enrichments are Available? Learners will have access to various activities within the College to develop and broaden their experience of College life. There is also the opportunity for learners to gain additional qualifications, enabling them to obtain a wider understanding of the Health and Social Care sector, thus increasing prospects for employment or further study such as: NCFE Certificate in Creative Craft BTEC AwardCertificate in Work Skills Are there any Trips or Visits? Trips and visits may be arranged to complement your studies. Learners are encouraged to take part in College organised enrichment activities. Is there any Work Experience? A period of work experience may be undertaken as part of the course in a variety of health and social care settings, for example day and residential care settings, primary schools, nurseries and other specialist centres.
