Course Description

What you will study There are three stages to the programme: Exploratory: explores a wide range of media, materials and visual thinking. Introduces the language of Art and Design within a range of specialist areas of study, focusing on building fundamental drawing, painting, mixed-media skills and developing knowledge of space, measurement, surface and colour theory. Pathway: allows an increasing move towards your chosen direction of study within the four main areas of Art and Design: - Textiles, Surface Pattern and Fashion Design (printed textiles, constructed textiles, theatrical costume) - Visual Communication Graphic Design,Illustration, Photography, Animation) - 3D Design and Crafts (Furniture, Ceramics, Jewellery, Product, Interior Design and Architecture) - Fine Art (Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Video and Installation) Confirmatory (Final Major Project): demonstrates your skills and experience by means of a self-devised Major Project and an open exhibition. Your Course Structure Theoretical Practice: 20%; Practical: 80% How you will learn Through a range of projects involving investigation, research and communication skills, you will examine historical and contemporary aspects of Art and Design in order to analyse and prepare research information for written and seminar presentations. You will be taught a range of fundamental artistic skills including drawing, mixed-media and painting which will develop into more personal techniques as you progress into areas such as textiles, fashion, 3D and digital work. As well as regular local visits to galleries, museums and exhibitions, there will be a culturally enriching residential visit to consolidate your understanding of art appreciation and inform your own work.

You must be at least 18 years of age and have five GCSE passes at grades A* - C (including English) plus Level 2 in Maths plus A Levels or other Level 3 qualification such as AVCE or National Diploma. Mature students will be considered on merit, experienc????????

Assessment Methods

Assessment is continuous with final grading being subject to external moderation. Students will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction, awarded for their knowledge and understanding, personal development and manipulation and translation.
