Foundation Degree Manufacturing course code: 0105p39-1 start dates: September 2010 course length: 2 Years location: WCT - All Saints Building, Deansway first year fee: ?TBC you may also be interested in: Foundation Degree or HNC/D in Mechanical Engineering HNC/D in Manufacturing course content You need to be employed to be able to join this course as it is a work based qualification which requires company support for completing some assignments and conducting useful and valid work based projects in both years of the course. The first year units are very much the underpinning knowledge subjects such as maths, science and business. There is also a more hands-on module covering the process of design and a module looking at the choice of materials and processes for manufacturing various components. The planning and scheduling techniques module covers the basics of planning methods, factory layouts and inventory control. The second year study is more applied engineering with topics covering CAD (Autocad and Solidworks), pneumatics and hydraulics(Automation Studios simulation as well as practical boards), plcs, manufacturing systems, preventative maintenance and robot technology. There is also a quality assurance and environmental management module which allows students to investigate how their company implements these ideals. assessment All units are continually assessed by the College and validated by Aston University. There is a mixture of group and individual assignments and some internally set examinations career opportunities This course is directed towards developing individuals in work based learning so that career progression opportunities should be strengthened. progression Direct progression on to the final year of the BEng Mechanical Systems degree programme at Aston University.
