Course Level: Level 4 and 5 Entry Requirements: Applicants should have one of the following: ? A BTEC National Certificate or Diploma (or equivalent Level 3 Qualifications) in Logistics ? 1 A Level with supporting GCSEs at grade C or above, including Mathematics, Science, Technology. ? An Advanced Vocational Certificate in Logistics discipline. Course Description: The Foundation Degree (FD) in Logistics has been designed to meet the specific needs of the industry through direct consultation with businesses and Skills for Logistics. It provides an excellent underpinning of the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for a successful career in logistics and supply chain management. The programme is primarily intended for those currently in employment within the field of logistics and transport, and who are looking to develop their skills and further their career, but is also open to those not currently in employment but who are looking towards a career within the logistics profession. The work-based learning components of the course and the work-based project enable students to obtain a knowledge and understanding of logistics and business improvement techniques. This forms a good basis for progression to the final year of a degree in logistics or to further professional qualifications offered by the Chartered Institute for Logistics (CILT), Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply and the Freight Transport Association. Students will gain skills and abilities necessary for independent enquiry and learning, problem solving, and interpersonal, communication and teamwork. Students will also have the opportunity to apply in depth technical knowledge, skills, business awareness, and management skills to manage a personal project of commercial significance. Course Content: Year 1: ? Introduction to Logistics (20 credits) ? Personal Development and Leading People (20 credits) ? Continuous Improvement within Logistics (20 credits) ? Warehousing (20 credits) ? Legal and Environmental Aspects (20 credits) ? IT Systems and Project Management (20 credits) Year 2: Year 2 comprises a series of specialist modules that give the opportunity for students to develop more specific skills relating to their particular working environment or interest. An emphasis will be placed on analysis and evaluation of theories and methods, as well as their use in the modern logistics environment. Mandatory modules: ? Operations Management (20 credits) ? Supply Chain Management (20 credits) ? Work based Project (Business Case) (40 credits) The available options are shown below. Students can select from this list the modules most appropriate to their business sector and career aspirations. Option modules (any two from the following ?? each 20 credits): ? Inventory ? Sourcing and Procurement ? Retail Logistics ? Transport Operations Progression: Successful FD students will graduate with 240 credits and they will have the opportunity to progress to earn the additional 120 credits for a full Bachelors degree or the additional 180 Level 7 credits for a Masters qualification. The programme covers the syllabus for the CILT Professional Diploma in Logistics and Transport, thus providing the following options: Students completing the Foundation Degree may also gain the CILT Professional Diploma in Logistics and Transport if they wish, by the Competency Route Students completing the CILT Professional Diploma (or units of it) may progress onto the Foundation Degree by appropriate ??OEtopping up??
