Course Description

Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care Practice In association with University of Kent This is an exciting and innovative employment-based qualification, which aims to capitalise on your existing experience within the health and care sector and to set that expertise in the context of an academically rigorous learning experience. It is designed to address the needs of people already working in the health and care sector and who are committed to developing their knowledge and skills in relation to current practice. This foundation degree has been designed in conjunction with the NHSU and employers in the NHS and social care sectors. It is taught by a range of methods, including lectures, small groups, student mentoring, presentations and work-based project work. You will attend college one day per week for two years. Content: You will commence with a preparatory module in order to ensure you are ready for HE level studies. Specialist modules include: Health, Safety and Security in the Workplace Understanding Relationships in Care Socio-political Context of Health and Social Care Human Growth and Development Personal and Professional Development in the Workplace I and II Mentoring Skills Equality, Diversity and Rights Duration: 2 years full time or 3 years part time. Entry Requirements: You will be in relevant employment (in a paid or unpaid capacity). Demonstration of successfully completed in-house training is welcomed. You will have one of the following: Modern Apprenticeship Level 3 A Levels GNVQNVQ or other Level 3 vocational qualification no traditional qualification but you may gain a place through your past experience. All applicants will be subject to interview, evidence of recent experience will be required. Assessment: Through a combination of written individual assignments, project and personal log. Progression: On successful completion of the foundation degree you will be prepared for a range of career options within the health and care sectors. You may also choose to progress to the 15 month top up BA Health and Social Care Management at Canterbury College or enter a second or third year of a relevant degree at another instituition.
