Foundation Degree in Engineering Course ID: PC69634 Academy: Manufacturing Technology Introduction: The course has been designed to: meet the changing needs of industry; enable students to diagnose the nature of technical issues and problems in industry; recommend courses of action to remedy them; assess strategies and techniques available to engineers; and to demonstrate specialist technical skills. The Foundation Degree is a new qualification, allowing greater flexibility in career development, with guaranteed progression to an honours degree course for successful students. Study Mode & Location: This course is studied full-time over two years or part-time over three years. Attendance is dependent upon the modules chosen but will not exceed three days per week. Attendance on one evening may be required. It will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR. Course Content: The foundation degree comprises 12 modules taken over two years. The core modules are: Mathematics for Technologies. Engineering Science. Electrical/Electronic Principles. Industrial Studies. Workplace Module (one per year). Project. In addition, students will select a further five modules with the options that must be chosen to follow a particular BEng Degree. Students will be advised on their choice of these modules dependent on their preferred choice of career or degree. Assessment: Assessment is via a combination of assessment methods relevant to the particular module Careers & Progression Opportunities: The programme has been developed to meet the needs of any industrial position that requires a good understanding of engineering. Career progression and professional requirements have influenced the design of the course. The qualification is universally recognised by employers and enhances promotion prospects in supervisory and management appointments. Successful students may progress to a BEng Degree at the University of Central Lancashire or other universities, in a subject related to their choice of module options.
