Course Description

Foundation Degree in Early Years This a 2 year part-time equivalent programme leading to a Foundation Degree. It is aimed at those working in the Early Years sector in nursery classes, day nurseries and schools. For the purposes of the Foundation Degree Early Years is defined as Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1. The programme has a strong vocational element and students will be required to work in an early years setting for a minimum of two days a week for the duration of the programme. This may be as an employee or volunteer worker. Please note employment or placements in playgroups and after-schoolbreakfast clubs are not suitable for the purposes of this Foundation Degree. Birth to Three: Playwork: Supporting the Foundation Stage Curriculum: Supporting Learning in Key Stage 1: Fees The fee for the Foundation Degrees at North West Kent College will be ?TBC Requirement Students applying for this Foundation Degree will normally be expected to hold either one full A Level or an equivalent vocational qualification such as NVQ3, BTEC National Diploma, AVCE etc. They must also demonstrate a strong interest in and aptitude towards working with children in early years. Students must also hold English GCSE at grade A-C or equivalent and be aged 18+ years at the point of entry. All students will be required to undertake a CRB check. All students should be employed or working voluntarily in a setting appropriate to Foundation Stage or Key Stage 1 for a minimum of two full days a week. Students must provide confirmation from their employer that they have such employment or that they are undertaking a voluntary placement for the said two days a week. Students will be required to show evidence at the end of the academic year that they have completed the requisite number of hours. Please note: students will be required to find their own early years settingsschool placements if working voluntarily - playgroups and after-schoolbreakfast clubs are not acceptable for the purposes of this Foundation Degree.
