Course Level: Level 4 and 5 Entry Requirements: This course is specially designed for practitioners with professional experience, working with children up to the age of eight years in Early years settings e.g. Teaching Assistants, Nursery Nurses, Playgrouppre-school workers, Playworkers etc. They could be working in the private sector, for local education authorities, social services or in the voluntary sector. Candidates should already have a level 3 qualification to a good standard e.g. CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education, BTEC National Diploma in Early Years, NVQ Level 3 in Early Years Childcare and Education, NVQ Children?? s Care Learning & Development, or NVQ Level 3 Playwork. Course Description: If you are working with children in an Early Years setting then this qualification will not only add to your knowledge and understanding but also enable you to progress to a teaching qualification and wider career prospects. The programme is work-based, enabling you to work alongside, and be supported by, professionals in the field. It will make a significant contribution to good professional and management practice in the workplace. It can be achieved by part-time attendance at Sutton Coldfield College, with hours that will suit most people?? s work and family commitments. This qualification is Sector Endorsed by CWDC, Sure Start recognised and endorsed by Birmingham Local Authority. It is offered in partnership with the University of Worcester. Course Content: The course will develop skills, knowledge and understanding of the principles of practice, professional collaboration and management, planning and managing an Early Years curriculum and current theories and practice in Early Years education. There are also work-based extension modules which will enable you to pursue your own particular field of interest. You will be supported in the work setting by a professional critical friend who will be a colleague from within your work place, a visiting practice mentor and in college by an academic personal tutor. You will study the modules as detailed below: Level Four 1801 - Developing Professional Practice and Study Skills 1802 - Safeguarding Children 1803 - Developing Positive Learners 1804 - Play and Development 1805 - Managing People in Early Years Settings 1806 - Working collaboratively 1807 - Work-based module 1 (Self Evaluation and Study Skills) 1808 - Work-based module 2 (Professional Practice) Level Five 2801 - Investigating Quality in Practice 2802 - Planning and Managing an Appropriate Curriculum 2803 - Promoting Curiosity and Investigation 2804 - Creativity, Language and Communication 28056 - Work-based Investigation (Research Project) DOUBLE MODULE 2807 - Work-based module 3 (Reflective Thinking and Research Skills) 2808 - Work-based module 4 (Professional Practice) Progression: The Sector-endorsed Foundation degree will confer Senior Practitioner status. The Foundation Degree can be topped up to a full degree in Early Childhood studies and then, with a further year, a PGCE which will give Qualified Teacher status. It is also possible to train for Early Years Professional status (EYPS). It would be expected for graduate students to progress to senior and management roles in Early Years Care, Education or Playwork. This could include: management, administration, research and advisory roles in day care, social care, cr?ches, nurseries, early years classroom settings and play schemes senior classroom assistants home-school link officers welfare assistants and co-ordinators play specialists in a management or co-ordination role.
