FOUNDATION DEGREE IN APPLIED AND MEDICAL SCIENCE Who is this course for? The Foundation Degree in Applied and Medical Sciences will provide vocationally relevant science education for those wishing to follow careers in applied and medical sciences; producing competent individuals to meet local, regional and national needs. How long is this course for? 3 years part time (including placement). What will I study? Skills for Applied and Medical Sciences Introduction to Human Biology and disease Introductory Chemistry IT and biostatistics Safe bio-analytical practice and risk assessment Physiology and anatomy Chemistry Professional practice in applied and medical sciences Cell Biology Labs Skills and safety. Attendance Part Time How will I be assessed? Learning and Teaching Methods: Lectures, tutorials, seminars and presentations, practical sessions (involving independent and team work), workbased learning and case studies, self-directed learning employing computer-aided learning. ASSESSMENT METHODS: Written examinations and class tests. Coursework including presentations, problem-solving, laboratory and reports from work-based learning. What can I do after the course? This is a new course offered in conjunction with the University of Ulster and is an innovative programme designed to provide students with the necessary high-level skills needed to gain employment in the fast growing sector. Students successfully completing the proposed foundation degree programme will be able to progress on to courses in the areas of biology, biomedical sciences, biotechnology, pharmacology, food and nutrition, and human nutrition and dietetics. Progression is available to the University of Ulster but students will also be able to take their qualification to other HE institutions How do I apply?
