Foundation Degree in Animal Welfare and Management Course Level Level 5 Course Description Validated by York St John University. This two year full-time or three year part-time programme is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of animal management to equip them with the necessary knowledge to assess the welfare needs of animals, enable them to acquire practical animal management skills and devise appropriate management strategies pertinent to the animal sector. It focuses on the health and welfare aspects of animal management plus employment in the ancillary industries. Awarding Body Course Content Core Modules: Animal Husbandry Management Animal Health and Welfare Animal Science Introduction to the Management of Animal Collections Business Management Animal Nutrition Animals in Human Society Personal Professional Development Work Based Learning Elective Modules: Animal Behaviour Animal Reproduction, Breeding and Genetics Additional Qualifications This may include NPTC Safe Use of Veterinary Medicines or other relevant qualifications deemed suitable by your work provider. Career Progression BSc (Hons) Animal Management BSc Applied Animal Behaviour and Training BSc Applied Animal Science Employment opportunities in animal charities, welfare organisations, care of endangered species, animal farm park management, zoological organisations, wildlife parks, livestock production, the retail animal trade, police or army work and animal training or behaviour. Campus Work Experience Work related learning is an important part of this course. You will negotiate work experience or a placement with your tutor. Assessment The assessment programme includes written course work, practical assessment, presentations, learning diaryreflective logs, and case studies. Attendance Course Length and Study Pattern A two year full-time or three year part-time programme Entry Requirement Satisfactory reference plus one of the following: 100 UCAS points from A Levels or equivalent e.g. BTEC National in Animal Management In addition to the above, GCSEs English Language and Mathematics (grade C or above) or equivalent Students with relevant HNCs may be able to transfer credit in certain modules onto the Foundation Degree. Students without the necessary qualifications but with relevant work experience are encouraged to apply.
