Course Description

Foundation Degree Equine Management Duration: 2 years full time. 3 years part-time The Course: This course is available as a 2 year full time or 3 year part time programme and aims to provide the student with the fundamentals of equine training, development and management, setting foundations for a successful career. The learner will gain skills, knowledge and practical experience in horse knowledge and care including yard and estate management. Biomechanical effects of exercise and injuries will be studied and scientific knowledge applied in a practical context to the development of the performance horse. Experience will be provided in the management of equine breeding stock and commercial stud practice. This qualification provides an essential broad base to the theoretical knowledge and practical experience needed for working in the equine industry and includes compulsory work experience. Progression Routes: Upon successful completion of this Foundation Degree students can top up to a full Honours Degree at UEA in Professional Practice (Equine Management), or top up at another university on a course pertinent to their specialism*. Alternatively students will be well equipped with industry skills to meet demand in the workplace. *Subject to other universities entry requirements. Financial Information: Course Fees for full-time Foundation Degree students will be 3145 per year and for part-time students this will be 1572.50 per year. Help with Fees is detailed below. Financial Assistance: Full-time students can apply for a Student Maintenance Loan up to 3000 through their Local Education Authority (LEA) to support living costs. The amount available is based on your personal circumstances (up to 100% by means-tested application) or up to 75% through a non means-tested application. Full time students from low income households could be eligible for a new means tested non-repayable Higher Education Maintenance Grant (HEMG) of up to 2700 available from their LEA. Easton College Bursary Award (ECBA) Full-time students can apply for a non-refundable bursary of 1000 per year from the ECBA which will be paid in two instalments at the end of each semester. Students receiving the full value Higher Education Maintenance Grant (HEMG) will be eligible to apply for support through the Easton College HE Learning Fund and all other students receiving less than the full HEMG may be eligible for pro-rata assistance from the Fund (all students must complete a means-tested application). This is paid each semester.
