Course Description

Foundation Degree Communication and Networking Technologies Overview This programme is aimed at people who already have a solid understanding of computing and networking and wish to take their ability to the next level. Description During the programme you will develop your skills and knowledge of computer networks along with their implementation and management. The course is modular and the content is designed to be flexible enough to provide you with underpinning knowledge in all subjects. You will also be given the opportunity to explore certain areas deeper to meet your individual personal and business needs. This programme is validated by Leeds Metropolitan University. How long is the course? Two years. This is a full-time course. Part-time and day release options may be available subject to demand. How will I be assessed? Assessment methods are varied and may include written reports, presentations, case studies, individual/group projects and reflective statements. Where modules are work-related, assessment will relate to your own organisation and/or vocational setting. What will I study? There are a total of 16 modules which include: o Networking Fundamentals o Computer Hardware o Network and Server Management o Maths in IT o Network Security o Project Management o Routing and Wide Area Networks o Development Project o Personal and Professional Development o Work-Related Learning What does the course lead to? Upon completion of the programme you may wish to use your qualification to progress in your current career to senior level roles. What can I go on to study? Upon successful completion of the course, you may wish to further your academic studies by completing a one year top-up award to gain a BSc (Hons) Computing. Our tutors can offer advice and guidance if this is your intent. Course fees are payable for each year of all university level courses. Entry Requirements All applicants will be invited to an interview to discuss qualifications, experience and any other related issues. To study this course, you will be expected to have at least one of the following: o Full A Level and three GCSEs at grade C o NVQ Level 3 in a related subject o BTEC National Certificate/Diploma in a related subject o Other relevant Level 3 qualification If you have relevant work experience rather than qualifications, we will take this into consideration at the interview. However, literacy and numeracy at Level 2 is an essential requirement.
