Foundation Degree Built Environment (Construction) Overview The Foundation Degree in the Built Environment (Construction) offers a unique and flexible opportunity for students to develop their understanding of the construction sector within a demanding programme. Description A combination of traditional and innovative teaching methods are used to enhance the student learning experience and promote personal development on this foundation degree. You'll learn skills relevant to the construction industry today, preparing you for further study and enhancing your employability for a professional career within the sector. This programme is validated by the University of Derby. How long is the course? Two years. The programme requires attendance for one day per week. How will I be assessed? Assessment methods are varied and may include written reports, presentations, case studies, individual/group projects and reflective statements. Where modules are work-related, assessment will relate to your own organisation and/or vocational setting. What will I study? (YEAR 1) CORE MODULES Developing an Understanding of the Working Environment Construction Technology 1 Health & Safety and Risk Assessment Professional Presentation & Report Writing Skills OTHER MODULES Environmental Design 1 Surveying 1 Business Control Techniques Construction Materials(Theory and Applications) (YEAR 2) CORE MODULES Construction Technology 2 Project Management Negotiated Work-based Project Professional Development OTHER MODULES Estimating and Costing Maintenance and Refurbishment Procurement and Contract Surveying 2 What does the course lead to? The foundation degree provides a qualification which is nationally recognised within the industry and forms a basis for career progression. What can I go on to study? Completion of the programme provides the opportunity for further study through a one year full-time or two year part-time top-up to the BSc Degree (Hons) in Construction Management at the University of Derby. How much does it cost? Course fees are payable for each year of all university level courses. Entry Requirements All applicants will be invited to an interview to discuss qualifications, experience and any other related issues. To study this course, you will be expected to have at least one of the following: o Full A Level and three GCSEs at grade C o BTEC National Certificate/Diploma in a related subject o Other appropriate Level 3 qualification If you have relevant work experience rather than qualifications, we will take this into consideration at the interview. However, literacy at Level 2 is an essential requirement and numeracy at Level 2 is desirable.
