A maximum of 20 tariff points will be counted from Key Skills BTEC National Diploma PPP OCR National Extended Diploma (18 Units) P3 Course Aims This course provides the broad practical and professional training necessary for those seeking employment in the commercial section of the industry which includes fruit, vegetable and salad crops outdoors and under glass, as well as flowers and ornamental plants produced for the retail and landscaping industries. Course Content The practical application of horticultural principles together with fundamental plant science provides underpinning knowledge for specialist options. The development of plant knowledge is encouraged. The valuable work experience requirement of the course enhances future employability prospects. Special Features Extensive use of the unique college estate as well as organised study visits to enhance course delivery. This course has a strong vocational focus with opportunities to gain credit through work based learning. Work experience is an important element on the Foundation Degrees, students are encouraged to undertake a suitable 12 month industrial placement between years 1&2 where guidance and support will be given in helping to secure a placement. Although the 'sandwich year' isn't compulsory many students have found them to be invaluable experiences with the added bonus of making them very employable after graduation. Career Prospects Many job opportunities exist within the wide range of plant and crop production businesses, together with sales and marketing and the supply industry.
