A vocationally based programme with a strong emphasis on linking theory with practice. An opportunity to take your personal learning further towards a full degree. Part time study. Course Structure This foundation degree covers a wide range of topics, which are relevant to working with children and young people. It will provide you with some academically challenging ideas and help you link your practice with theoretical perspectives. Study for this foundation degree will involve face-to-face classes in the evenings, together with more flexible forms of study. This combination will help you to fit your study around work and family responsibilities, the actual study load will depend on your knowledge and experience of working with children and young people in professional settings. You should expect to spend on average about 17 hours per week working on the course. This time will include background reading, work based practice discussion and thinking about what you are learning. The course will follow school terms and teaching will be based around three 12 week periods. You will also have extra time after each teaching period in which to complete your assignments. You will be assessed through a range of approaches including essays, professional logs, projects and presentations. This will enhance your professional practice and help you to develop confidence in the work you do. Year One Studying in Higher Education Building Relationships with Children and Young People Effective Communication with Children and Young People Learning and Development of Children and Young People Professional Practice (1) Year Two Working with Young People in Groups Safeguarding Children and Young People Becoming an Effective Reflective Practitioner Professional Practice (2) Ethical Issues Year Three Multi Agency Working Social Policy and Inclusive Practice Supporting Transitions Entry Requirements There are no formal educational requirements to apply for this course. However, you will be expected to have a good standard of general education. You must also have relevant and current practice of working with children and young people and have completed your probationary period with your employer. You must also possess an approved disclosure (police check). Progression Routes This course allows you to develop useful skills, knowledge and understanding when working with children and young people and undertake responsibilities in this area of work. Course Career Prospects The credits gained on the completion of this course can be used to build up credit for a full honours degree in this or a related subject area. You may progress on to BA (Hons) Top Up working with children and young people. Fees All fees are per academic year and are the standard charges which may be subject to changes without notice. Standard fees apply to students who have been resident in the UKEU for at least 3 years.
