Foundation Degree: Early Childhood Policy and Practice Awarded by: The University of Hull Course code: LX53 Course Level: Level 4-5 Location: High Melton Attendance: Full Time Duration: 2 years Start Date(s): September Course Description The Foundation Degree: Early Childhood Policy and Practice is a two year course with the first year of study at level 4 and the second at level 5. It is based around your employment within the Early Years Sector and is specifically for practitioners who have already achieved level a 3 qualification in Early Years and who are working within the sector this can be in a paid role or in a voluntary capacity. The course provides the opportunity to develop your existing skills and knowledge with a particular emphasis on being a reflective practitioner. It is a full-time course but much of your work is based on your role within the sector and attendance at college is just one day per week. Satisfactory completion of this course would then allow you to further develop your learning through an additional year of study on the final year of a BA Hons course. It will also allow progression to an EYPS route. Course structure The course is college based for one day per week over two years with additional study based on your work within the Early Years Sector. It covers a wide range of topics which are relevant to working in the sector and will provide you with opportunities to reflect on and develop your practice. This course acknowledges previous study and experience and builds on this helping you to further develop existing skills and knowledge along with the ability to be a reflective practitioner. It will help you to develop further confidence in your work role. Year One Learning to Learn in Study and Work Child Development and Early Learning Observing and Assessing Young Children Multiple Perspectives on Early Learning Play and Exploration in the Learning Environment Year Two Inclusive Practice Approaches to partnership Managing an Early Childhood setting Effective Pedagogy for Early Childhood The Reflective Practitioner Course Assessment Study will include face-to face classes along with more flexible forms of study such as on-line learning, discussion forums. A range of assessment methods are used including assignments, presentations, projects, examination and case studies. Entry Requirements You will need to have all of the following: Level 3 Qualification in early years At least two years experience in an early years setting, either as an employee or on a voluntary basis. Current practice in an early years setting including home-based settings (childminders) at least one day per week. Progression Routes Successful completion of the course will allow progression onto the final year of the BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies at Doncaster College. It will also allow progression onto the Early Years Professional Status pathway. Fees All fees are per academic year and are the standard charges which may be subject to change without notice. Standard fees apply to students who have been resident in the UKEU for at least 3 years. Please note some courses may have additional costs for materials, exams and registration fees in addition to standard course fees.
