Course Description

First Diploma in Health and Social Care This one year course is intended to provide you with a knowledge of the health and care services, enabling you to investigate a range of areas for study. On this course you will also gain an understanding and the skills required for future practice and employment in health andor care. You will be required to complete work placements as part of the course, as well as homework. What will I be doing? You will study six units, two of which are compulsory. The two compulsory units are: communication and individual rights within the healthand social care sectors individual needs within the health and social care sectors The four optional units you will study are: vocational experience in a health or social care setting cultural diversity in health and social care anatomy and physiology for health and social care the impact of diet on health How will I be assessed? All parts of this course are assessed through portfolio work which means that you will need to complete assignmentsprojects throughout the course. An external examiner will come to the College to assess the quality of the work you produce. Where do I go from here? On successful completion of this course you will have a qualification which is equivalent to four GCSEs. You will be able to go into employment within the health and social care services (e.g. as a care assistant, home help, support worker etc), or progress to the next stage of applied qualifications either in the same area or in a related field. Entry requirements Four GCSEs at grade D. We will also consider your other achievements at school and examples of your work. Course Duration 1 Year
