Course Description

First Diploma in Health and Social Care This is a practical, work-related course. It aims toprepare you to care for people of different ages in a variety of settings. You will learn about lifespan development, health and safety, activities, diet and nutrition, health and care services and effective communication. The course will introduce you to the principles of care and includes supervised work placement. In addition there will be an opportunity to gain qualifications in first aid and Key Skills. Entry Requirements: 4 GCSEs at Grade D (16 pts) preferably including English. An interview is required for this course. Attendance: Full Time 1 year in college including supervised work placement. 80% attendance required. Course Content: Health and Social care is about caring for people of differing ages in a variety of care settings. Students will be able to gain knowledge and skills through assignment work and practical work placements. The units of study reflect the varied nature of health and social care. A range of topics will be studied , including communication and individual rights, meeting individual needs, Cultural diversity, human lifespan development, creative and therapeutic activities and the impact of diet on health. There will also be an opportunity to improve English and Maths and achieve key skills. Assessment: Assessment is through assignment work, internally assessed and externally moderated. Outcomes: Successful completion of the First Diploma in Health and Social Care with Merit or Distinction can lead to study on the National Diploma in Health and Social Care. Qualification: Ed Excel First Diploma in Health & Social Care Other Information: Study on this course will require a satisfactory Criminal Records Background check and Health Declaration. These checks will be carried out during induction. Students over 19 may be required to pay tuition fees and registration costs.
