FdSc Foundation Degree in Early Years (Sector Endorsed) Who is the course for? This is a two or three year part-time course for practitioners who have been employed in a child care setting for two years or more. On successful completion you will be able to progress on to a BA (Hons) in Early Years through the University of Plymouth. What will I study on the course? The modules you will study will include Child Development, Child Protection, Working Together with Children, Families and Other Professionals, Early Years Project - Investigation, Supporting Children's Learning (3-8 years) , Concepts of Inclusion in the Early Years Setting , Child Health - Contemporary Issues , Promoting Positive Behaviour, The Role of the Early Years Professional, Current Curriculum Issues, Early Years Project - Small Scale Study and Work-based Learning which is an integral part of the course. What makes this course special? ? Our excellent reputation for quality early years training has been built up over the past 25 years. Our multi-disciplinary staff are well qualified and keep up-to-date with recent developments in Early Years Practice through regular professional development. Tutorial support is offered together with appropriate level study skills and additional support if required ? We have been awarded Beacon status for our work in the integration of theory and practice through our work with the Early Years Centre ? At our last OFSTED inspection the Section was rated as Grade 1, outstanding with 'excellent teaching and learning.' ? It is a Sector Endorsed qualification, through the CWDC, designed to enhance career prospects for those already working with young children. It provides an opportunity to develop professional understanding, knowledge and key skills whilst still working. How will I be assessed? The course is taught through lectures, guided learning, practical sessions and tutorials. you will complete assignments, presentations and projects throughout the programme. Work-based learning sessions are an integral part of the course and it is crucial that you have the support of your line manager, mentor and colleagues. Will this course lead to a qualification? You will achieve a Foundation Degree in Early Years (Sector Endorsed) which is recognised as a Level 5 course on the National Qualifications framework. What can I do on completion of this course? Successful holders of the Foundation Degree will be awarded 280 credits. You will also be eligible to continue your studies to obtain a related honours degree through the University of Plymouth. On achieving a full degree you will be able to work towards EYPS andor progress onto a further year's post graduate study in order to gain qualified teacher status, subject to successful interview. How much will it cost? The course fee is ?742 per year 200910. Students starting a part-time course in 200910 may be eligible for financial support. Students from lower income households may be eligible for a non repayable course grant of up to ?260 and may also be eligible for a grant of up to ?1,210 towards the course tuition fees (depending on the intensity of their studies). Applications for loans and grants need to be made through Student Finance England or the Local Education Authority. Students in extreme financial hardship may be eligible for further funding via the Access to Learning fund by applying direct to Plymouth University. Those students working in private, voluntary or independent settings may also be able to access a substantial grant from their local authority through the Graduate Leadership Fund.
