Course Description

Construction is a fast-growing industry in the UK, and the need for companies to gain and retain skilled project managers is growing with it. This hands-on commercial and technical FdSc Construction Project Management can help you make the most of the opportunities available. 

As a foundation degree, its practical structure lets you complete the course in two years while you are employed in the industry. If you choose to, you can then progress directly on to the final year of an Honours degree in Construction Project Management.

Course Content

Your FdSc Construction Project Management studies will prepare you to take on a senior role. Through a combination of university- and work-based learning, you will enhance your knowledge and skills in:

  • procurement and tendering method and process management
  • project and resource management
  • contract administration and risk management
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Building Information Modelling (BIM)
  • building technology
  • building regulations and construction law.

We will also provide opportunities to expand your knowledge and your professional network through field trips and seminars. 

Visits to construction sites and materials manufacturers will help you grasp the real-world aspects of your theoretical studies. While weekly seminars with guest speakers drawn from academia, business and professional accreditation organisations will help you understand the industry and industry practice.

Our research seminars are also open to undergraduate students and will give you the chance to deepen your knowledge in particular areas.

There may also be opportunities to participate in competitions held by professional bodies, giving you the chance to demonstrate your skills.

In addition to these, we offer a range of teaching methods to suit different learning styles, including:

  • guided research and reading
  • laboratory experiments
  • group work in informal and formal assessment
  • examination of projects, simulated or real
  • analysis of scenarios and work-based situations
  • independent learning through individual learning plans

Entry Requirements

72UCAS points requiredfrom level 3 qualifications

These can include:

  • A Levels at grades B and C (if you have two A levels) or grades D, D and D (if you have three), or above
  • BTEC Extended Diploma with Merit, Merit, Pass
  • Access to HE Diploma

You also need GCSE English and Maths (grade 9 – 4 / A* - C) or Level 2 equivalents.

This course particularly welcomes applicants with the following qualifications: - Progression or Advanced Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment - Courses in a related subject area such as National Certificate/Diploma in Construction/Civil Engineering/Engineering.

Students on the Foundation Degree must be in employment, or have access to employment in AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction). It may be possible for the University to assist in finding placements. Students will be guided upon application.

Mature applicants (aged 21+): If you do not hold the qualifications listed but have relevant work experience, you are welcome to apply. Your application will be considered on an individual basis.
