Course Content

During this two-year building surveying course we will take you from basic principles to working on an integrated project in a team.

You will gain valuable skills in:

  • building measurement and condition surveying
  • procurement
  • CAD and BIM
  • maintenance management.

The course will also develop your understanding of:

  • building pathology
  • construction law
  • building technologies
  • regulations.

Importantly, you will also develop transferable skills in dispute resolution, teamwork, communication, and presentation. These skills are valuable assets for a number of roles within the construction industry.

We use different assessment methods to suit a variety of learning styles and help you get the most from your studies. These include both theory-based and practical assessments, including:

  • written assignments
  • design projects, individual and group
  • presentations
  • case studies
  • time-controlled examinations.

By the time you graduate, you should have a solid foundation in surveying and feel confident in your technical skills.

Entry Requirements

72UCAS points requiredfrom level 3 qualifications

These can include:

  • A Levels at grades B and C (if you have two A levels) or grades D, D and D (if you have three), or above
  • BTEC Extended Diploma with Merit, Merit, Pass
  • Access to HE Diploma

You also need GCSE English and Maths (grade 9 – 4 / A* - C) or Level 2 equivalents.

This course particularly welcomes you if you hold a Progression or Advanced Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment, have completed courses in a related subject area such as National Certificate in Engineering or Civil Engineering, or possess a Diploma in Construction.

Students on the Foundation Degree must be in employment, or have access to employment in AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction).

It may be possible for the University to assist in finding placements. You will be guided upon application.

Mature applicants (aged 21+): If you do not hold the qualifications listed but have relevant work experience, you are welcome to apply. Your application will be considered on an individual basis.
