Course Description

Course overview: This course is designed for staff at all levels who work within the social care field and who wish to have a greater understanding of diversity within society and how this relates to their role within the workplace. Course content: Legislation and responsibilities Understanding equal opportunities and its limitations The sources of oppression Support strategies for colleagues and their clients How organisations may promote equality and diversity Professional working practices Methods of delivery: The trainer will use a mixture of presentations, PowerPoint, flip chart, group discussion, role-play, case study, and small group activities. Learning outcomes: To gain an overall understanding of how embracing diversity and equal opportunities shapes social care To gain knowledge of respectful behaviours that engender valuing diversity in its many forms To gain a consideration of rights and needs and how valuing diversity leads to good service delivery and best practice To practice dealing with contentious issues including challenging colleagues and clients when there have been breaches to valuing diversity To understand creating a work environment in which diversity can thrive Pre-training requirement: Delegates should familiarise themselves with any organisational policies that may be in place governing issues of equality and diversity.
