Engineering (Mechanical) Foundation Degree - FdEng (Manchester Metropolitan University) WHAT'S ON THE COURSE? Level 1 Mechanical Science 1; Engineering Design; Electrical & Mechanical Engineering; Engineering Mathematics; Project Management; Industrial Case Study 1. Level 2 Mechanical Science 2; Engineering Techniques and Tools; Control and Instrumentation Systems; Computer Modelling and Systems; Industrial Case Study 2; Engineering Project. Methods of Assessment The assessment strategy is varied and includes a wide range of assessment methods providing a balance of work based projects, continuously assessed assignments and examinations. Assessment methods used throughout the programme include phase tests/examinations, essays, project and laboratory reports, design assignments and presentations. The opportunity to evaluate your own approach and performance is seen as an essential part of the course assessment process and there will be regular opportunities to review your work with the support of teaching and tutorial staff. Although it is designed as a two year course, this foundation degree can be completed over 3 years too. Please contact the College for details of the cost for studying over 3 years. WHAT'S THE SCHEDULE AND FEES? HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE? 2 Years. Monday 9.00am-9.15pm. WHEN DOES IT START? 05 September 2011. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? The tuition fee for this course is 1,285.00 per annum (home students only). IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR ME? WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR? The Foundation Degree is offered to industry-based students undertaking Advanced Modern Apprenticeships and full time college/A-Level leavers who can secure a work placement. It is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to succeed in a wide variety of engineering and manufacturing jobs providing both the basic theoretical knowledge in science and engineering and the opportunity to apply this knowledge in the work environment. WHAT CAN I DO NEXT? Students who successfully complete the Foundation Degree may progress directly to Stage 3 of the linked degree courses at MMU, which include the BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering. Alternatively, students may wish to go into, or continue with, employment in the engineering industry.
