Course Description

Electronics AS/A Level Electronics will be of direct interest to those considering a career in electrical, electronic or computer engineering. However electronics is invading all aspects of life and this course will be of use to all those wishing to pursue careers in any type of science or engineering. The course is not as mathematical as some other science A Levels and no previous knowledge of electronics is required. Throughout the course there is a strong emphasis on practical work and you will acquire good practical skills as well as a broad understanding of basic electronics. Internally assessed project work constitutes 27% of the assessment. AS For the AS you will investigate basic components, amplifiers and logic circuits. Assessment is via two exams in June together with coursework. Simple Systems - 1hr 30 min exam Signal Processors - 1hr 30 min exam Build and Investigate Electronic Circuits - coursework A2 For A2 your knowledge will be extended to cover electronic control and communication systems. Two further exams are taken in June and a second project is submitted in May. Electronic Control Systems - 1 hr 40 min exam Communication Systems - 1 hr 40 min exam Design, Build and Investigate Electronic Circuits - coursework.
