Course Description

Hams Hall was once the site of three coal fired power stations. The centre has a collection of artefacts, including aerial photographs, that illustrate the scale of the generation during the majority of the 20th. century. A taught session on the methods of production incorporates the process and transmission of electricity. It can include a consideration of safety issues and be extended to include a brief observation of the impact of air pollution in the local area and the need for energy conservation. The Centre now has a demonstration Wind Generator and Solar Panel. Pupils can consider the issues associated with the use of fossil fuels and renewable energy sources. The issues raised by the web-based E.ON Energy Experience for Key Stages 1, 2, 3 and 4 can also be incorporated in the session.
