Electrical / Electronic Engineering BEng (Ord) and BEng (Hons)

Blackburn College

Bachelor Degree , Electronic Engineering

Course Description

BEng (Ord) and BEng (Hons) Electrical / Electronic Engineering Course Overview The Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree offers a broad-based training that integrates the core fields of electrical, electronic and computer engineering. Students have the flexibility to specialise in the area of their interest. Electrical/Electronics Engineering encompasses information technology, communications, medical electronics, computers, aerospace, robotics, automation and indeed all applications of electricity. As a specialist in this field you will be able to design, build and control electrical and electronic devices. These devices may range from circuits to gather and process information to large items of heavy-current machinery. What will I study? Year 1 is common to Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Digital Communication Systems and Digital Electronics Engineering degrees. Modules include electronics and digital principles, communication principles, digital networks and information technology for engineers. Satisfactory completion of the first year also leads to a Higher National Certificate. Year 2 modules include microprocessors, electronic circuit design, digital electronics and electronics, computer aided design, electrical power and machines, use of simulation packages such as MATLAB, LABVIEW, SIMULINK, HYPERSIGNAL and MULTISIM. Year 3 or the final year modules includes advanced electrical engineering, advanced electronics circuits application, engineering design and simulations, digital signal processing and power electronics. Students will be involved in design and development projects in electronics engineering fields throughout the course, supported by staff. Modules can include Digital Electronics Electronics Circuit Engineering Introduction to Microprocessors Electrical Power and Machines Further Mathematics & Applications Professional Issues Electrical Circuit Applications Group Project Research Project Advanced Level Project Course Requirements You need 160 UCAS points, with the majority obtained in relevant subjects such as Engineering, Physical Sciences and Mathematics. Applicants with between 80 and 160 UCAS points are advised to apply for the HND Electrical / Engineering Engineering course, from which it is possible to progress onto the BEng (Hons) degree course. If you already have Higher Education experience then it is possible to join the second or third year of the course. Don't have the grades to get on the course? Don't worry; Blackburn College provide full and part time top-up courses. Progression This stream offers limitless opportunities working as a graduate in the electronics engineering sector, communication systems, computers, robotics, control and electrical energy generation systems. It also opens opportunities in the commissioning, nuclear decommissioning, aerospace, and other related engineering sector. Validated by Lancaster University Duration 3 years (full-time) UCAS Code E25 H622 - 3 years E25 H621 - post HNC/D top-up
