Course Description

This Masters level programme is suitable for those interested in Personal and Professional Development (PPD) courses but who are not eligible for the Masters in Teaching and Learning (MTL) programme. The recognition of both the importance of PPD, and of teaching becoming a Masters level profession, has led Newman University College to expand Masters level provision aimed specifically at teachers. The MA in Education is designed for experienced teachers and those early in their teaching career, and has a clear focus on professional development that impacts positively on the pupils, schools and the community. The aims of this programme are to: ? Provide high quality Masters level professional development for those working with children and young people in educational settings ? Enhance your professional knowledge, understanding and skills by developing your abilities in systematic professional enquiry and research ? Enhance your knowledge, understanding, and skills in curriculum development ? Promote critical engagement in a range of contemporary issues relevant to your needs ? Encourage you to explore personal and professional interests and expertise ? Provide an appropriate academic platform for your progression to PhDEdD study. Indicative Elective Modules ? Mentoring and Coaching ? Curriculum Development ? Creativity and Curriculum ? Extending and Enhancing Maths ? Children?s Literature ? Global Citizenship Education ? MFL Pedagogy ? Forest Schools ? Child Development and Inclusion ? Personalisation and Assessment for Learning ? Reflecting on Professional Practice ? Independent Study. Please note elective modules will be offered on a rolling basis and will not be available every year. Attendance Taught sessions will be based at Newman, usually delivered one evening per week during term-time only. Assessment Assessment will be through a range of strategies such as portfolios, presentations, written reports and essays, work-based studies and practical tasks. The course will recognise your needs as a learner and develop independent study skills that are transferable to a range of learning situations and assessment tasks. Special Features The focus is on your professional development and the impact of this on your teaching and the pupil's learning. You will have access to all facilities at Newman University College, such as the library, which stocks a wide range of books, journals and e-books. This course is subject to validation.
