Course Description

Background As a supplier in the construction industry, are you confused by complex environmental requirements? Having trouble with hazardous waste, site waste management plans, water, environmental legislation or other issues? Find establishing an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) too complicated and time-consuming? British Standard (BS) 8555 from Project Acorn may be the answer. BS 8555 is designed to provide a route for the phased implementation of an EMS. It breaks down the traditional ISO 14001 EMS structure into six manageable phases, and provides an opportunity to gain external recognition at any phase. On behalf of CIRIA, and using its ?Easy Access? programme, Responsible Solutions Ltd is facilitating a series of workshops that give construction sector focused assistance and support at each stage of BS 8555 to help you get there. BS 8555 Phased Implementation of an Environmental Management System BS 8555 was designed for use by supply chain companies who would find a full implementation to ISO 14001 in one step somewhat challenging. It provides an effective, convenient and practical methodology for implementing an EMS. It is also useful for supply chain leaders as a tool when mentoring suppliers in environmental management. BS 8555 offers a six-phased approach, breaking down ISO 14001 into easily manageable stages. For organisations that have not yet started out in environmental management, it can be the perfect way to make a start. BS 8555 Workshops The first workshop covers Phase 1 of BS 8555, providing participants with an introduction to the phase, an explanation of what?s involved and assistance in starting the process. Participants will work through practical examples from their own operations ensuring that when they return to the office, they will have a clear understanding of how to move forward. Facilitators provide hints and tips from their own experience in developing and implementing Environmental Management Systems and review the progress participants have made between workshops to ensure that each participant develops an EMS tailored to the scope and functions of their operations.
